- Secure Server
- Any web server that supports a major security protocol such as SSL in order to encrypt data transmitted in order to protect the server and users against data theft.
- Shared hosting or virtual hosting is a form of web hosting where a client leases a limited amount of space on a server. Multiple clients will share all resources on one server, including processor speed and bandwidth.
- Shared IP is an IP address that is shared by multiple websites. A Shared IP is common on Shared Hosting plans.
- Shell
- A shell is a piece of software that provides an interface for users to access services on an operating system. Many web hosting companies now provide the client with shell access to the server, allowing configuring of the servers' services and applications.
- Shockwave
- Shockwave is a technology developed by Macromedia which allows web pages display interactive elements.
- SMTP
- SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is a software protocol used to send e-mail on the Internet.
- SQL
- SQL (Structured Query Language) is the most common language used to create, modify, retrieve and manipulate data from most databases.
- SSH
- SSH (Secure Shell) is a protocol allowing a secure channel to be established between a web server and a client's local machine. Many web hosting companies now offer SSH for greater security.
- Subdomain
- A subdomain is a subdivision of the main domain name.
